She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, Prey is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. Hats off to Xitel for designing a fantastic second-generation converter and designing it with everyone in mind.Ĭheck out the thrilling, action-packed new trailer for Prey, the newest entry in the Predator franchise. It works well, is extremely easy to use, and is a very economical little gadget. If MD is your portable weapon of choice, but you have a nice little MP3 library, then the DG2 will be your best friend. Instead of a nice smooth stream you will end up with skips and dropouts, and there are few things as frustrating and boring as redubs. Opening and closing windows, using memory hog programs, etc. Though I will say that in order to achieve glitch-free recordings you really have to leave your computer alone while its working. The DG2 keeps the entire process digital, so you needn't worry about crappy A/D or D/A conversions mucking up your recordings. Admittedly, 160kbps MP3s are not perfect recordings, but I believe that 160kbps is a very practical quality level. I rip my MP3s at 160kbps and the MD recordings are indistinguishable from the originals. I've been recording to my Sony MZ-R900 and Sharp MT877 and everything's gone very well. A bit of trial and error might be required.Īctual recordings sound terrific. Some portables are only compatible with one mode, while some support both. Some recorders require a continuous stream of data in order to record and some don't. Next to the USB jack on the DG2 is a small dipswitch that toggles between continual and discrete recording modes. The benefit of this snag was that I can now say that Xitel has a very informative, and very easy to use, support center. So while it seemed to install completely, my computer would not recognize the DG2 as an output device. However, there are three drivers needed to run the box. The funny thing is that my machine installed a driver when I first connected the DG2. All of this just means that you should have your Windows CD on-hand when you set this thing up. ![]() However, if, like me, you have a PC that came with Windows 98 preinstalled, the manufacturer might not have installed every last driver on the Windows CD. The DG2 ships without any driver disc at all, as it uses Windows drivers. ![]() The problem stems from Windows installation. I hit this wall, but the Xitel site got me back on my feet in no time. While the DG2 is basically a snap to install, you might encounter a driver problem with Windows 98. The DG2, on the other hand, will work with ANY recorder. Owners of multiple devices will be forced to use their Sony for recording from their computer. The PC Link will only work with Sony portables, which is fine so long as you have only one recorder. Xitel makes both units, and they are very similar looking (both even say DG2 on the bottom), but the DG2 is a more versatile unit. ![]() Firstly, the DG2 is not the same as the Digital PC Link, which is the USB-to-digital optical converter bundled with Sony MDLP recorders.
